Drink Your Tea!

Rules, rules, rules ...

Perfect Balance: You cannot use Perfect Balance to stand up on a turn you were knocked down. The reason for this is Perfect Balance has the clause that you need to be able to sacrifice movent or activation to stand up & the normal knock down rules do not allow you to sacrifice these on the turn you are knocked down.

♣ You can’t use a Mercenary Contract and a Theme List. You have to use one or the other. Merc book page 20.

♣ Fury Vault: You cannot go over your FURY with fury from the fury vault as you are “leaching” from the fury vault like you are leaching from a beast and “leaching” is restricted to max your FURY. But there are other mechanisms (top-off from the Kegbearer, e.g.) that allow you to go over your FURY in fury points as these just “add” fury points to your total.

♣ Telekinesis Into Combat: If telekinesis is cast into melee at an enemy, and misses, the friendly model is hit automatically. Do not roll to hit in this case as Telekinesis hits friendly models automatically.

♣ Reaving: In Primal MKII leaching says you can leach any number of fury points while reaving does not. It just says remove the fury points (from the destroyed model) and place them on the warlock. Any excess are discarded. That means you have to reave all of it, and throw away the left overs.

MORE TEA WITH THE MAD HATTER

  • You can interrupt your charge then turn to face your charge target then end your activation as anyone who fails a charge.
  • Be aware of this thread.
  • Tiers lists are no considered “legal” for tournament play until the book is actually released.
  • When a model is knocked down or thrown, it maintains the same facing.
  • Weapon Master applies to Smite Chain Attacks.  Look here.
  • If a charging model ends its charge movement without its charge target in melee range, then it has made a failed charge. If model makes a failed charge during its activation, its activation immediately ends.

MORE TEA WITH THE HATTER

  • Explosivo ignores the effects of Tune Up.
  • With Karchev, try using the Power Slide.
  • Read this clarification and ruling.
  • Yes, boys and girls, in MKII you can declare a charge with your warcaster or warlock, move your charge distance to your target, cast a spell (or use your feat), and then perform your charge attacks.
  • Bonuses from Might of Kings do not stack if damage comes from the same source.
  • As it stands now, it would appear that a fleeing model can still use its abilities. As long as the ability can still be used by a model that is running, you can still use the ability. Read pages 36 (Abilities) , 46 (Running) , 78 (‘Jack Marshal), and 85 (Fleeing.)
  • If you charge, Backswing attacks happen simultaneously but still are considered a second attack so they are not considered to be auto boosted from the charge.

RULES RULES RULES

The Mad Hatter has a few more rules for you to consider when playing your games of WARMACHINE and HORDES. Enjoy!

This is easy stuff but was recently discussed at the Tea Party, so I post it here.

Assault Order: If a unit assaults its original target, and the target is destroyed before all  the models get a chance to make their assault or charge attacks, the attacks are lost. The assault is only against the original target. The other models may still make normal melee attacks against other targets as usual.

Combo Attacks: You can’t make a Combo special attack like a Combo Strike if either of the systems required for the Combo Strike are crippled. Read page 66 of Prime MKii.

Return of the Mad Hatter

The Mad Hatter is a odd fellow, and he stops by the Autopsy Room from time to time. He showed up all the sudden while I was trying to clean up the table a little, and flopped down on the floor. He started rambling about rules, and such … so here we go …

[Rules]

  • Harlan Versh’s Multi Fire allows you to make 1 initial attack + 3 attacks.
  • In Steamroller 2010, Trollblood Whelps cannot control an area bur can contest it. They are solos.
  • Pivoting is considered moving.
  • When a model leaves play, all effects on that model immediately expire, so there is no damage from Spiny Growth if the Carnivean is destroyed in the attack.
  • When slamming Ol’ Rowdy into Stryker … interpret “when slammed” to mean “when a model makes a successful slam against” Ol’ Rowdy, so he would be moved unless he was in B2B with Stryker at that time. The knockdown effect is resolved at the same time as the collateral damage, so if Ol’ Rowdy ended up in B2B with Stryker at the end of the slam movement, Stryker could avoid being knocked down.
  • If the Choir is singing their “No Shooty Jacks” song, Gun Mages can still shoot the jacks. Magic weapon vs. magic attack is the key to this.
  • Counter charge requires the target to end the movement part of its activation as well as advance. As Overtake is an out of turn movement effect, Counter Charge does not trigger. Movement = Any movement a model makes, in or out of turn, voluntary or involuntary. Normal movement = Movement a model makes during the movement portion of its activation. Advance = Any voluntary movement, in or out of turn. In this case, Counter Charge triggers on an advance that ends movement within 6″, so it also works on out of turn (but only voluntary) movement. Overtake is an ‘advance’ movement, so it qualifies for Counter Charge.

That’s all I managed to glean from his ramblings before he got up and wandered off looking for a cup of tea. Maybe I will see him again soon!

YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT

The Mad Hatter has what you need, and we’re not talking about tea. You want it and you know it. You’re itching for it. So here it is …

  • Typhon cannot make Fling attacks while it is frenzied because it cannot be forced.
  • Feora’s Caustic Presence [Fire]: Fire continuous effects Fire that affect enemy models in this modelʼs control area cannot expire. Rolls are not needed because the fire effect will not expire and damage will apply.
  • You can make Gunfighter attacks only within 0.5″, even if you have a melee weapon with a longer reach.
Vortex of Destruction causes boosted damage against enemy models in Ravyn’s melee range, in this case 2″.
  • Purification does not remove Voltaic Snare.
  • McNaile + Herne & Johnne: Does Artillerist work with the additional 2 AOE’s generated from Scattershot? Yes. The additional shots also benefit from Artillerist. They are part of the same attack.
  • Field Promotion: A model that is promoted to leader cannot make attacks the same turn it was promoted, but it can still perform actions. A newly promoted unit commander cannot make an attack the turn he was promoted. This includes free strikes.

That’s all the dark knowledge that the Mad Hatter has for you today. Go into the world and use it well.

MORE WISDOM FROM THE HATTER

The Hatter spends a lot of time at the table, boys and girls, and collects wisdom for you! This is wisdom that will save you time during your gaming sessions! Enjoy.

Sacrificing movement to attain the aiming bonus doesn’t mean the model cannot be moved by other means – it merely means that you freely give up your movementment phase to achieve the aiming bonus.

Stormfall Archers had a version of Snipe that will not stack with the spell Snipe as they are named the same. If the Stormfall Archers had “Pew Pew” instead of “Snipe” then it would stack. The name matters.

Be aware of this change in rules. Remember it’s not Official until it is added into the FAQ.

Denegra’s MK II spell card “Ghost Walk” reads that a model may “advance” through terrain and obstacles. Please be aware that in MK II the term “advance” has changed somewhat. “Advance” does not refer to “walking.” Advancing encompasses Full Advance, Run, Charge, and other things that are not in the Quick Start rules.

In MK II, a “Crippled System” has all of its boxes filled in.

MAD HATTER ON MIGHT OF KINGS

the_mad_hatter

The Hatter is back in the Autopsy Room with one more bit of random wisdom:

  • Might of Kings is not triggered by Elvad taking amage from barbed wire. The damage comes as a result of Vladimir himself (intentional self-injury in an attempt to trigger the mechanic), and thus, not only will this not work, but per Might of Kings, any potential bonus will be lost for the entire game, per the mechanic. It is not intended to have Might of Kings trigger off of passive, neutral damaging terrain.

RANDOM WISDOM

The Mad Hatter has some pearls of random wisdom for you … remember this is MKI. This will change in MKII. Maybe.

Q: What happens if I fire an AOE into melee and it misses?

A: It deviates normally. You don’t roll against your own guys before deviation. Remix page 48 says: “An area-of-effect attack that misses a target in melee deviates normally instead of following these rules”

Q: With arterial spray from Absylonia, after hitting the model with the magic attack, where does the spray attack come from?

A: The spray template must be placed from the hit model’s front arc like a normal spray attack would from the model.

Q: When using Kraye it seems that Powerful Charge and and Cavalry charge might stack. Is this correct?

A: Yes, they stack allowing a +4 attack roll from a ‘jack in Kraye’s battlegroup.

That’s all for now.
