DARK AXIS: SECRET BATTLES OF WW2

I picked up the four issues of Dark Axis from Ape Comics when I made a short trip out to New Dimension Comics in Pittsburgh Mills. They had all four issue on the shelf, so I snatched them all up at once. The story was pretty good, pitting gritty Sgt. Bryce and his men against the Fourth Reich hellbent on completing Project: Lazarus where they would unleash an army of undead cyborg Nazi soliders on the world at large. So basically it was like Sgt. Rock fighting Disel Punk Hitler. My kind of story.

From the back of the comic comes the hook: “From the twisted mind of horror director Greg McLean comes DARK AXIS – a world war 2 action adventure that tastes like a cross between Saving Private Ryan and Evil Dead. It features secret Nazi weapons, terrifying monsters, and reveals the history of a sprawling evil conspiracy that almost changed the course of the war, the DARK AXIS.”

The story was good, and honestly has a suprise ending that caught me off guard. One of my favorite characters in the series doesn’t really show up until book 3. He’s the Nazi Commander who dons a huge diselpunk exosuit armor complete with heavy weapons and chainsaws. If ou’re into the “Weird War 2” genre and like some steampunk or diselpunk zombie killing action, then pick up this series before it’s gone. Oh, and watch for the movie that’s coming soon.
