Gardain Glimmerstone is a a cleric of Dumathoin, Dwarf god of mining, underground exploration, and caretaker of the dead. Gardain began his priestly duties by working in the mines, and worked his way up to being a supervisor of mine safety. During this time, he served the dual purpose of tending to the dead who often result in mining expeditions. Gardain volunteered for the trip to Nexus because he wished to accompany the Dwarves who were assigned to explore and mine rare elements from the Island. Since arriving, the expedition has gone terribily wrong. Forced to abandon Highport, the remaining members of the Nexus Expeditionary Force struggle simply to survive in this alien landscape.
Nexus Expedition, Unknown Date: The Fall of Highpoint.
Ψ Our mission was to secure and take the city of Highpoint. However, the city is literally disappearing. We watched from the Airship as the buildings began to recede into the ground. We landed long enough to load some of our fallen companions on board, and to secure some of the last equipment that remained in the city square. Krell discovered that the ground has turned into a soft, blubbery substance. After loading our fallen companions equipment, and horses into the cargo bay, we guided the Airship up to the tower in order to stop the beam that was almost certainly a distress beacon.
After a short moment of investigation, I chose to call down the power of The Reaper to DISPEL the MAGIC. The light immediately winked out. We then turned and went back to pick up Markle and his men. After that, we started our journey towards the mountains, aiming to investigate where the tower’s beacon was aimed.
Along the way, we was a Mountain Troll shepherding several large rams. The Troll saw our ship, and tried to hide. Later still, we spied a Mountain Troll village. Although Krell wanted to lay waste to the village, we satisfied his urges by swooping in and sending the Trolls fleeing to their homes in fear. Krell jumped off the deck, and stole their Ram that they were roasting, providing him with a tasty meal.
Still later in our travels, we saw the corpse of one of the flying whale creatures on a ridge of the mountain. We glided close enough to allow Fenris the Alchemist to disembark with Krell and a small unit of Steel Skeletons.
[The ship was manned by animated skeletons. The undead had been fortified by turning their bone into metal. Krell was given the magical item that allows control over the Steel Skeletons. Gardain used energy from his god to fix the undead which had been damaged in the crash.]
A ghoul emerged from the skull of the Leviathan carcass, Krell ordered the Skeletons carrying bows to fire on the ghoul, killing it. Krell decided to take the body of the ghoul to harvest it’s venom. When Fenris the Alchemist was done taking samples of crystal and bone, they returned to the ship.
Moving along towards the point in the mountains, we continued to see evidence of “humanity” along the mountains, including a mine. Finally, we reached our destination. We saw a hanger bay cut into the mountain. Approaching it, I could see that it contained several ships that seemed to be of Elven and Dwarven make. And I also noticed that as I was peering at them with my spyglass, that someone was peering back at us. We slowly approached the landing platform, hoping that we might finally meet some allies in this strange and unforgiving land.
