TWISTED RUNE: SESSION SEVEN

We have been playing D&D 5th edition on Discord using DnD Beyond since March during the Covid-19 pandemic in Pennsylvania. This is our second campaign.

Forgotten Realms, The Silver Marches, 1486

The companions met with Mccath the Crimson. She seemed weary and tired yet She was busy at hercwritingvdesk copying a spell from one book to another. She was accompanied by two Kobolds, Rak and Dev. Rak seemed to dislike the companions and Rak appeared withdrawn and bored. Mccath explained that her contacts would be coming soon and that the companions could negotiate with each in turn to support their needs in their quest to combat Kalman.

Before Long, three executives from Acquisitions Incorporated arrived, namely Omin Dran, Jim Darkmagic, and Walnut Dankgras. Before Mccath could complete proper introductions or explain why the three were there for the meeting, Omin did his “thing” and broke out into a business pitch. He produced a complicated, over wordy document and a pen, indicating that Rain and the others should sign on the dotted lines in exchange for access to Strix Beestinger’s safehouse located in the Silver Marches. Walnut was quiet, only taking interest when Rain produced two gemstones, and Jim managed to produce a flurry of six doves that fluttered around the room and then disappeared.

Mccath shook her head and rolled her eyes constantly throughout the negotiations between Omin and Rain. In the end, they weren’t able to come to an agreement and Jim left a magical business card with Rain. Jim teleported himself and the other AI staff away in a gaggle of a dozen white doves that filled the room, flew around, and then disappeared. Afterward, Mccath explained that the AI staff are often hard to deal with and that she wished that she would have warned them about their nature of being shrewd buffoons.

Mccath talked with then about their need to move throughout the region quickly and explained that her next contact, Buppido, was a mage who specialized in travel magic, especially teleportation. She encouraged them to negotiate carefully because teleportation services are costly and hard to come by anywhere in Faerun.

Bargaining with Buppido was easier. The Derro talked with them and tried to determine their intentions with going to Gravenhollow. He explained that “You do not find Gravenhollow, Gravenhollow finds you.” He was worried that Fradelis had an active connection with House Xorlarrin, but after some disscussion she explained that she had been abandoned by the House when she was a baby. This interested Buppido because he was smart enough to know that based on her age, House Xorlarrin was not as powerful a House at that point as they were now.

In any case, Buppido agreed to help the companions to pay off a life-debt that he owed to High Lord Methrammar Aerasumé. He explained he would teleport them to the outpost of Mantol-Derith free of charge, and then accompany them until they could locate a man named Ghazrim DuLoc. DuLoc was an agent of the Zhentarrim, otherwise called The Black Network.

Buppido had to teleport the companions into the Underdark cavern that contained the trading outpost first and then teleported them a second time into the massive pillar that housed the marketplace and four warehouses. The Derro mage explained that they had just travelled in a moment what would have taken them 20-25 days to travel on foot. They had not only travelled across the surface but hundreds of miles into the underworld.

Buppido seemed at ease within the outpost. He gave the companions a quick walking tour pointing out areas of interest.

Luna and Eanrin both expressed the desire to sell a few pieces of equipment so Buppido led them through the maze of people and market stalls to Peebles, a Deep Gnome merchant. Here Luna sold her well-used chain mail and Eanrin sold a lute in exchange for a bone pan flute. All the while, Rain kept his eyes peeled for thieves and pick pockets.

Peebles seemed to be interested in discussing the battles of the recent war with a focus on The Knights in Silver, The Ardent Order, and Lord’s Alliance. Eanrin and Luna provided a little of their experiences during the war but Buppido urgently ended the conversation and urged them move along.

  1. Reading about that exchange with Acquisitions Incorporated was so much less frustrating than actually seeing it play out! 😂
Curious about why it matters that Fredalis was abandoned when her house was less important than it is now, and how that may play into her character later.
